The successful candidate will be part of a dedicated European R&D team in Sophia Antipolis (South of France), with specific focus on Data Analytics and on conception, development and validation of IoT-based algorithms. As a Researcher / Data Scientist, the candidate will be operating in the following key domains – People and Goods Transport, Fleet Operation Optimization, Industrial Manufacturing Optimization. Hitachi is about innovating with cutting edge technologies in the above domains, using Data Analytics, Artificial Intelligence, Machine learning and Software Engineering for validation/tests.
The post holder is expected to present the results of the research activities within Hitachi R&D, as well as follow and participate in EU research activities and consortia. EU trends are reported and discussed with Hitachi R&D centres in Japan. The post holder will need to build and maintain strong relationships with colleagues in other Hitachi R&D sites, which includes occasionally travelling to other countries.

R&D project management, requirements’ analysis, data analysis design. Development of algorithm specifications, coding, and evaluation of software functions must be carried out in collaboration with our colleagues at global level
The R&D fields are Advanced Telematics Solutions and Machine Learning, Internet of Things and related activities in academia and industries
Proposing and implementing analytics’ algorithms in sustainable society, also based on analysing customers’ data
Support of Hitachi Europe events and business activities with respect to the above-mentioned fields
Identifying and understanding the (new) customers’ challenges and their requirements
· The candidate should have at least MSc degree in any of Mathematics, Statistics, Data mining, Computer Science, Physics or related discipline, with proven industrial experience
MANDATORY COMPETENCES AND EXPERIENCES:
Programming: The candidate is expected to have a very good mastery of at least one between Python and R, and should also have knowledge of C++, Matlab, SQL and Hadoop
Techniques: In addition to knowing basic statistics, the candidate must be proficient in most AI (neural network) and Machine learning techniques. This includes and not limited to reinforcement learning, adversarial learning, supervised/unsupervised learning. The candidate is also expected to have good knowledge of time series analysis, survival analysis, recommendation engine, natural language processing and computer vision
Tools: In addition to the above, the candidate should be able to use all or some of the following tools: Qlick, Power BI, D3, Tableau or similar business intelligent analytic/visualization tool
Soft Skills needed include but not limited to the following:
Creativity: must be creative and able to reason “out of the box”, creating new business opportunities around the data. High analytic reasoning ability is needed for this position
Agility: Some projects might require the candidate to work in an agile fashion, where it is required to show/deliver results in about 2/3 weeks
Team work: The candidate must be a very good team player, and able to work/cooperate with people across all Hitachi entities around the globe
Communication: must possess good communication skills and be able to communicate both technical and business insights to all audiences
Language: Good command of English Language, both spoken and written is a must
Passion: The candidate must be passionate about data and data analytics, and related jobs
Curiosity and Persistence: must be curious and able to probe data, ask questions and come to right conclusions about the tasks at hand
Traveling: required to travel relatively often within Europe, and occasionally to Japan and the United States
