The EMPATHIC Research & Innovation project will research, innovate and validate new paradigms, laying the foundation for future generations of Personalized Virtual Coaches to help elderly people to live independently.
The wellness coaching advice will promote healthy habits and behavior, by challenging each user to transform their personal goals and needs into actions. The EMPATHIC Virtual Coach (EMPATHIC-VC) will engage the healthy-senior user and reach pre-set benefits, measured through project-defined metrics, to enhance well-being through awareness of personal physical status, by improving diet and nutritional habits, by developing more physical exercise and by social activity
One of the Scientific Goals of the Project is to detect the individual?s emotional and health status of the person during the interaction with the EMPATHIC-VC. In particular it will use emotional information from eyes, face, speech and language to deliver a hypothesis of the user emotional status to assist decisions.
The candidate will participate in the EMPATHIC project, which is coordinated by the UPV/EHU, to carry out:
Research and development work in areas related to multimodal affective computing, mainly in emotion detection from speech and language.
Collaborative work in the project management tasks.
Collaborative work in corpus acquisition and annotation.

Requirements and qualifications:
The candidates must have:
.- A PhD degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Computer Engineering, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence or related domain within the ICT.
The ideal candidate would have experience in:
.- Affective computing and Speech Technologies
.- Neural Networks and other machine learning techniques
.- Software development in C, Perl, Python and toolkits related to speech technologies
.- Project participation and publications in the area of research
.- Very good written and spoken communication skiills in English
.- Basque knowledge is a plus.
.- A good level in English language.
