In particular, we are looking for super-talented Machine Learning Engineers and technical specialists. You’ll be playing a leading role in accelerating the productionisation of ML across the Data Science community as part of the transformation of a 178 year-old UK brand. You’ll be collaborating with many different teams across BT and be able to showcase your ability to provide high-value insights.

Your responsibilities will be to…

• Play a significant role in realising ML in production for BT; through the effective utilisation of the Data Science Platform(s) and improving infrastructure and tooling to enable the business to operate quickly and safely.

• Be a senior figure in a distributed team of Machine Learning Engineers working with the Data Science community across all business units in BT.

• Work closely with Data Scientists in the AI team, and across BT’s business units.

• Help the business to realise the value from their AI initiatives through speeding up their solution delivery, ensuring that all ML artefacts are captured, and the solution is robust enough for production.

• Report on progress clearly and succinctly to a wide range of colleagues, in and outside the immediate team.

• Be a subject matter expert across BT for MLOps, with a responsibility for advising other teams to encourage the usage of AI and ML infrastructure.

• Drive the high-quality and efficient deployment of multiple ML techniques across multiple products and business units.

• Enable novel ML models to be productionised and scaled across BT, with full lifecycle management (including Continuous Integration, Delivery and Training).

• Set good software engineering practices for IaC, with the Data, AI & Cloud engineering communities. Leading this important for the ML Engineering concerns.

• Leading by example, and directly coaching Machine Learning Engineering specialists and early careers colleagues, on your specialist topic.

What we are looking for from you…

• Demonstrable tenure & impact, playing a significant role in Platform or Infra engineering; Ideally for Platforms concerned with ML deployment/MLOps /end-to-end Data Science initiatives.

• Direct and recent experience engineering on Cloud ML platforms such as Google Cloud Platform (GCP) Vertex AI, Amazon Web Services (AWS) Sagemaker or Microsoft Azure ML Studio. GCP is advantageous.

• Prior experience building IAC, Platforms & ML pipelines. Productionising ML solutions, particularly for large-scale, high-throughput, low-latency applications.

• Significant experience in Production with Python and Cloud deployment technology e.g. Terraform including determining IaC practices & standards for ML Practitioners.

• Experience with MLOps orchestration (Kubeflow, TFX, Kedro etc.) and in building data pipelines using tools such as Apache Beam, Spark, Kafka and MLFlow) would be desirable.

• Experience of working directly with customers/stakeholders and as part of an Agile squad.

• Design & delivery experience in implementing and steering good software engineering practices (DevOps, CI/CD, Testing) in tools such as Gitlab.
