Our team is part of the Web Application Security organization working on Akamai’s largest cybersecurity product. We focus on solving real-world problems that impact customers from global banking to e-commerce and gaming. Access to the Akamai Edge platform provides big data that captures 30% of global internet activity.

As a Data Scientist, you will use statistics/machine learning to develop security algorithms and research emerging threats. You’ll develop tools to visualize and analyze their outputs. Our release cycle will allow taking research and infusing it into products to protect global brands.

As a Data Scientist, you will be responsible for:

+ Analyzing large sets of data to develop/improve automated Web Application attack… detection dealing with malicious bots/misbehaving humans

+ Designing scalable processes to collect, manipulate, present, and analyze large datasets in a production-ready environment

+ Developing working prototypes of statistical/machine learning-based algorithms, evaluating and comparing metrics based on real-world data sets

+ Working closely with our engineers to deliver code across our platform

To be successful in this role you will:

+ Have 2 years of experience and a Bachelors/Masters diploma (or equivalent experience) in a relevant field

+ Have experience working with Python and SQL. Experience with Spark/Pyspark/Scala is a great, but not required

+ Have an understanding of probability/statistics and experience with machine learning algorithms/techniques (e.g. anomaly detection, Kmeans, KNN, logistic regression, random forest, gradient boosted trees, LLMs, etc).

+ Have experience with data visualization techniques, and more ideally data visualization platforms like Tableau

+ Have excellent problem-solving skills to develop algorithms and creative solutions using a variety of data types

+ Be able to work productively with team members, identify and resolve tough issues in a collaborative manner

• *Compensation**

Akamai is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. The base salary for this position ranges from $102,973 – $154,614/year; a candidate’s salary is determined by various factors including, but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and location. The compensation package may also include incentive compensation opportunities in the form of annual bonus or incentives, equity awards and an Employee Stock Purchase Plan (ESPP).
