Period: 12 months (up to 15 months, subject to grant approval)

Salary: £33,000 – £37,000 per annum (Starting salary to be confirmed on offer of appointment), plus £2,000 per annum training budget

Candidates must be in post by June 2024 due to grant funding. Therefore, due to the time required for security clearance for the role, only those who are currently resident in the UK and have the right to work in the UK, are eligible to apply.

Project Title: To develop semi-automated technology for digital record processing, archiving, curation and retrieval for government departments and public sector bodies.

We are seeking a highly motivated individual with relevant skills to join the project team delivering a 12-15 month project between Loughborough University and SVGC Limited, funded by UKRI Innovate UK.

You will join one of the UK’s Top research-led universities (REF 2021) and a highly-ranked Computer Science Department with access to a wide range of high-spec computing… facilities including HPC, deep learning machines and workstations with the most recent high performance GPUs and servers.

Working within the SVGC company, together with academic partners from Loughborough University the successful applicant will develop AI-based Natural Language Processing tools for digital record processing, archiving, curation and retrieval for government departments and public sector bodies. These automated processing methods will enable de-duplication of files and identification of content ensuring legislative compliance with the Public Records Act.

The successful candidate will be enthusiastic, with good interpersonal and transferable skills to enable technical delivery, programme management, marketing and advocacy for AI technologies.

The candidate will be qualified to PhD level in Computer Science (or related discipline) or to Masters with equivalent research experience.

Strong Python programming skills are essential, and practical experience in Deep Learning and/or Natural Language Processing are desirable. Implementation of software prototypes for commercial deployment will require the associate to have experience or desire to learn web development (e.g. Django) including graphical user interfaces. Skills in docker and container orchestration are desirable.

The KTP Associate will be based primarily at the Company premises in Hanslope Park, Milton Keynes, but will also spend some time at Loughborough University. The Associate will be supervised by Dr Georgina Cosma and Dr Andrea Soltoggio who are experts in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (AI) including Natural Language Processing, Information retrieval tasks and highly-adaptive deep neural systems at the Department of Computer Science at Loughborough University. They will also be supervised by industry supervisors, and have access to a range of R&D training & support, HPC and high-spec deep learning machines.
