Thesis title:Optimization of thermal management and chargingstrategies to extend the lifespan of lithium-ion batteries usingartificial intelligence and predictive modeling.

Whatwe’re looking for

The evolution of the electric vehicle market is undeniable, with significant advancements in extending vehicle range and performance. Central to these advancements are lithium-ion batteries, whose lifespan and performance are motivated by various factors, including temperature, state of charge, and power demand. Predicting their service lifetime given these complexities remains a challenge. This PhD project at IFPEN strives to address this by demonstrating artificial intelligence, specifically Machine Learning, and predictive modeling to optimize thermal management and charging strategies for these batteries.

• Comprehensiveliterature review and staying updated with technologicaladvancements.
• Conductingelectrical and thermal experiments in the laboratory.
• Implementing and refining machine learning algorithms.
• Proposing innovative digital methodologies.
• Authoringscientific publications and completing your PhD thesis.

Whatyou’llbring

You are currentlypursuing a master’sdegree or equivalentexperience in computer science, information sciences, physical sciences, electrical engineering, or relatedfields.

Your qualifications
• You have experience in Machine Learning and predictive modeling techniques.
• A fundamental understanding of battery electrochemical and thermal behavior would be appreciated.
• You are proficient in programminglanguages such as Python.
• You have optimization skills.
• Your interpersonal and communication skills, in both French and English, will enable you to establish effective partnership within the team. The thesis will be written in French.
• An understanding of System simulation (Simcenter Amesim) will be an advantage.
• Anunderstanding of the battery management system will also be an advantage.
