An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic seismologist with expertise in machine-learning workflows for seismic data analysis to develop enhanced earthquake catalogues to support the latest earthquake forecasting models. The position is funded by the Digital-Twin-GEO project, https://dtgeo.eu/, an international partnership that aims to develop prototype Digital Twins for… geohazards to empower discovery and promote the scientific understanding of earth processes. The work will focus on the implementation of existing workflows for demonstrator sites in Italy and the Euro-Mediterranean region, benchmarking the ML-based, enhanced catalogues and development of statistical metrics to describe their strengths/weaknesses.

We are looking for candidates qualified to PhD level in a topic related to earthquake forecasting, statistical seismology or seismic hazard. In addition, you should have research experience on the development of earthquake catalogues using machine-learning algorithms together with a broad knowledge of forecasting of earthquake sequences using high-resolution data.

This role requires excellent communication skills, both verbal and written and involves team working so you must be able to work effectively with others and have good time management skills.

Please note – you will be required to have the appropriate level of security screening/vetting required for the role. UKRI reserves the right to run or re-run security clearance as required during your employment.
