• *Job description and associated tasks**

In the framework of the study ¿Machine Learning Applications for Predictive Maintenance of Weapon Systems¿, we are looking for a **_full-time researcher with a Master in Engineering/Applied Science/Computer Science/Artificial Intelligence/Mathematics/Physics or equivalent _**.

Context:
You work within the research group SMAC (Simulation, Modeling and Analysis of Complex Systems) in the department of Mathematics. You conduct scientific research at university level on a project entitled ¿Machine Learning Applications for Predictive Maintenance of Weapon Systems¿.
• *Description de la fonction
• *Study**:
State-of-the-art weapon systems are equipped with a vast array of sensors that collect data about the weapon system in real time. Some companies, such as e.g. Airbus, offer predictive maintenance ¿as a service¿ to their customers, based on the data gathered by these sensors. However, the actual algorithms involved… are proprietary. The Belgian Defence has purchased various modern weapon systems which will be equipped with these kinds of systems, and which will be able to register enormous quantities of data.

A number of weapon systems that are currently in use already possess a similar (but possibly more limited) array of sensors. Currently this data is not being exploited. One of the objectives of this project is to identify, collect and analyse the existing data in order to build up this crucial expertise in advance of the arrival of the new weapon systems. These will be used as test cases to identify the most appropriate and efficient machine learning techniques.

Finally, we will design and develop a toolbox of methods for the real-time analysis and visualization of weapon system sensor data in order to help predict the need for maintenance. This toolbox will have a user-friendly interface and will be able to connect with various systems through a standardized database.
