Our client, a cutting-edge research and development lab focused on the responsible advancement of artificial intelligence, is seeking a visionary Principal AI Ethics Researcher. This senior-level, fully remote position is at the forefront of ensuring AI technologies are developed and deployed in a manner that is fair, transparent, accountable, and beneficial to society. You will lead research initiatives, shape ethical guidelines, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to embed ethical considerations into the entire AI lifecycle.

Responsibilities: Lead and conduct pioneering research into the ethical implications of AI, including bias, fairness, transparency, privacy, accountability, and societal impact. Develop novel methodologies and frameworks for assessing and mitigating ethical risks in AI systems. Publish research findings in top-tier academic journals and present at leading international conferences. Collaborate closely with AI engineers, data scientists, product managers, and legal teams to translate ethical research into practical implementation guidelines and tools. Influence the company’s AI strategy and roadmap by providing expert ethical counsel and foresight. Develop and deliver training programs on AI ethics for internal teams and external stakeholders. Engage with policymakers, industry consortia, and academic institutions to contribute to the broader discourse on AI governance and responsible innovation. Mentor junior researchers and contribute to building a strong internal culture of ethical AI development. Analyze emerging AI technologies and proactively identify potential ethical challenges and opportunities. Advocate for ethical AI practices throughout the organization and beyond. Contribute to the development of open-source tools and resources for AI ethics practitioners. Qualifications: Ph.D. in Computer Science, Philosophy, Law, Social Sciences, or a related field, with a strong specialization in AI ethics, fairness, accountability, and transparency (FAccT). 10+ years of relevant research experience, with a significant portion dedicated to AI ethics or responsible AI. Demonstrated track record of impactful research, evidenced by high-quality publications and citations. Deep understanding of machine learning principles, algorithms, and the technical challenges associated with ethical AI. Experience developing and applying ethical frameworks and methodologies to real-world AI systems. Exceptional analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex ideas clearly and persuasively to diverse audiences. Proven leadership abilities and experience guiding research projects or teams. Familiarity with relevant legal and regulatory landscapes pertaining to AI and data privacy. Ability to work effectively in a highly collaborative, fast-paced, and intellectually stimulating remote environment. Strong commitment to advancing the field of responsible AI.
