This postdoc position is part of interdisciplinary research collaboration between the Division of Visual Information and Interaction, Dept. of Information Technology and Science for Life Laboratory.
The Department of Information Technology conducts research and education in a spectrum of areas within Computer Science and Information Technology. The research is organized in five Divisions, and the Division of Visual Information and Interaction houses the Centre for Image Analysis, which has a long tradition of theoretical and applied research and graduate education in computerized image analysis and scientific visualization. The focus is on image processing as such, but also on developing better methods, algorithms and systems for applications within primarily life sciences, medicine, and digital humanities. The Science for Life Laboratory, SciLifeLab, is a Swedish national center for molecular biosciences with focus on health and environmental research. The center combines frontline technical expertise with advanced knowledge of translational medicine and molecular bioscience. SciLifeLab is a joint effort between Karolinska Institutet, KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm University and Uppsala University. SciLifeLab was established in 2010 and appointed a national center in 2013. Today, approximately 1,500 persons work at the center’s two sites in Stockholm and Uppsala (www.scilifelab.se).
Research project: Digital imaging of medical tissue samples and genetic analysis by next generation sequencing are two rapidly emerging fields in pathology. The goal of this 5-year project financed by the European Research Council (erc.europa.eu), is to develop computational methods that bridge these two emerging fields by combining spatially resolved high-throughput genomics analysis of tissue sections with digital image analysis of tissue morphology. The postdoc candidate will be involved in the development of advanced methods for digital image processing and data mining, but also collaborate closely with researchers form the biomedical field
We are currently seeking to fill the role of an expert in computerized image processing and analysis responsible for continue the development of our tissue analysis and visualization tools. The candidate will be expected to collaborate closely with the project partners and be involved in supervision of PhD and MSc students. Tasks include development of approaches for analysis of large-scale microscopy image data, and methods will range from learning-based image segmentation and classification to statistical analysis and visualization.
Candidates should have a doctoral degree (PhD or equivalent) in computerized image processing and analysis or a similar field, combined with documented experience from algorithm development and programming. To be eligible for a position as postdoctoral researcher the applicant’s Ph.D. degree must have been obtained no more than three years prior to the application date; however, periods of sick leave, parental leave, union mission or similar are deducted from the three-year period. Experience from working with microscopy data and life science applications is highly valued; especially experience from large-scaled tissue image analysis.
Excellent skills in spoken and written English are required.
