Microsoft Search Advertising has two-fold mission:
1. Enable Advertisers reach their audience and boost their business with BingAds suite of advanced and intelligent Ad solutions.
2. For a Search User, provide better ad experience.
Bing Ads Applied research team is hiring extremely talented, highly motivated individuals with expertise in the areas of analytics, statistics, machine learning, and large scale approximate algorithms. The team develops and applies advanced techniques to turn our petabytes of data into insights; and to drive actions based on those insights. The team works closely with teams across BingAds and Bing search to enable rigorous, effective and data-driven decision making. At the core of our team’s mission is using data to understand users and advertisers.
Some of the challenges we face with respect to users are:
Understanding user intent: query reformulations, large-scale NLP applied to queries
Information retrieval based Ad selection systems
Click / Conversion prediction and reserve Pricing
Relevance and Revenue optimization
Some of the challenges we face with respect to advertisers are:
Extracting Keywords from Landing pages
Bid keywords, Negative keyword Recommendation
Cost-Per-Click / Cost-Per-Action Optimization
Identifying Spam and Malware advertisers through ad description, landing page etc.
Information extraction from landing pages and advertisers websites for richer ad formats

Job Responsibilities
Apply data mining, statistics and machine learning to measure and understand the search user experience and feature engagement.
Generate actionable insights for improving search systems and increasing user satisfaction.
Take high-level questions and analyze data to find answers to those questions.
Research and develop solutions high quality models (e.g. response prediction).
Analysis and design of large-scale (both number and size) experiments.
Act as an expert in the area of data mining, machine learning, statistics and analytics.
Develop high quality code.

Qualifications:
Advanced degree (MS, PhD) in data mining, statistics, machine learning, mathematics, or related field (or the equivalent combination of education and experience).
Extensive knowledge and experience in one or more of the following areas: statistics, web mining, machine learning, information retrieval, information extraction, user modeling, databases.
Strong ability to apply your statistics, mathematical and algorithmic expertise to solve real-world problems.
Experience in analyzing very large real world datasets.
Programming skills and experience (e.g. C / C++ / C# / Map-Reduce).
Superior communications skills, both verbal and written.
Educational level:
Master Degree
