The Select Group is looking to hire a mid to senior level Machine Learning Specialist to join the team at one of our life science clients. This person will join the client’s cutting-edge research team. This team is focused on improving infectious disease treatment outcomes. This person will develop and apply machine learning (ML) techniques to classify patient viral sequence data, enabling the prediction of responses to therapies. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to advancements in personalized medicine by integrating computational techniques with molecular biology.

Requirements:
• Proficient in Python programming and familiar with libraries such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, Scikit-learn, Pandas, and NumPy.
• Demonstrated experience building predictive models using ML techniques.
• Experience with feature selection methods specific to biological datasets.
• Hands-on experience working with DNA sequence data, including alignment, annotation, and sequence-based feature extraction.
• Familiarity with tools for handling genomic data (e.g., Biopython, SAMtools, or similar).

Plus Skills
• Familiarity with sequence motif prediction tools and protein structure prediction or molecular docking tools is a plus.
• Understanding of virus / immune system interactions is a plus.

Daily Responsibilities:
• Model Development: Design, train, and validate predictive models to analyze viral sequence data and predict therapeutic responses.
• Data Preprocessing: Develop robust pipelines for preprocessing and feature extraction from DNA sequence data.
• Algorithm Optimization: Research and implement advanced ML algorithms (e.g., deep learning, ensemble methods) to improve prediction accuracy and robustness.
• Collaboration: Work closely with bioinformaticians, virologists, and clinicians to ensure the integration of domain knowledge into the ML workflows.
• Evaluation and Reporting: Perform rigorous evaluation of model performance using appropriate metrics and generate detailed technical reports.
• Codebase Maintenance: Maintain clean, well-documented code and contribute to collaborative software repositories.
• Scientific Communication: Present findings in internal and external meetings and contribute to publications in peer-reviewed journals.

Education:
• MSc or PhD in Machine Learning, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, or a related field.
