Overview

The technology platform Linguistic Research Infrastructure (LiRI) is a service unit with facilities for large-volume data processing and empirical science. We provide services and products that allow linguists and other researchers working on language-related data to collect, extract and analyze large data sets using advanced language computing technology and devices for experimental research. LiRI seeks to fill the position of a Linguistic Application Engineer to enhance our team. The expected starting date is 1st of July 2024. The employment contract is initially for one year with possible extension.
Your responsibilities
Collaborate in the design and realization of complex data-driven applications.
Contribute to the development of linguistic data processing and NLP pipelines.
Develop user interfaces for complex searches on large data collections.
Design, review, test and evaluate cutting-edge applications and methods.
Write sustainably structured deployable code.
Organize work in close collaboration with other team members and stakeholders.

Qualifications:

Demonstrable experience with professional software development, experience with web application frameworks is a plus.
Strong programming skills in Python and SQL. Further languages like JavaScript are welcome, but not required.
Experience with the architecture and implementation of linguistic databases.
Expertise in Large Language Models and Natural Language Processing.
Expertise in Deep Learning and knowledge of query languages is a plus.
MA/BA/MSc Degree or proven working experience in Computational/Corpus Linguistics, Computer Science or Software Engineering.

Language requirements:

Excellent command of English, good command of German is a plus.
