The principle purpose of the Technical
Manager, Machine Learning is to drive business results and provide strategic
guidance and thought leadership by leading Data Science and Advanced Analytics
capabilities at Lowe’s and Lowe’s Digital. Current areas of interest and
specialization on the team include: predictive modeling; personalization and
recommendation algorithms; natural language processing and text mining; search
recall, precision, ranking, and related problems; optimization and mathematical
programming with applications to labor scheduling, inventory and capacity
planning, network flows, and supply chain optimization. The Technical Manager,
Machine Learning will lead and manage a team of full time and contract data
scientists with varying levels of expertise.

The Technical Manager, Machine
Learning will have primary responsibility for providing forward thinking and
insightful analyses. This could include building personalization and
recommendation algorithms utilizing a variety of disparate data sources
including browse behavior, retail transactional, customer, voice of customer
and operational data and providing segment and testing recommendations. The Technical
Manager, Machine Learning will also be responsible for communicating results
for both key initiatives and tactical activities.

To accomplish this, the Technical
Manager, Machine Learning will need to partner and work in a cross functional
environment with various teams across Lowe’s including Lowe’s Digital, IT,
Marketing, Services, Pro, Inventory Planning, and Supply Chain. This individual
must have a strong interest in the retail space, a high level of intellectual
curiosity, and solid analytical skills. The Technical Manager, Machine Learning
must also demonstrate a high level of comfort in dealing with ambiguity and a
knack for being proactive in identifying areas of opportunities for the

This role requires travel up to
20% of the time within the US, and may include international travel.

Minimum Qualifications

·5+ years analytical experience with a Bachelor’s degree in
related quantitative analytic field OR 3+ years analytical experience
with a graduate degree in related quantitative analytic field (Computer
Science, Statistics, Physics, Economics, Industrial Engineering, Operations Research, etc.)

·Experience using
multiple data systems and sources including an enterprise grade analytics tool
(Hadoop, Spark, Aster, Teradata, Netezza, Redshift, Vertica, etc.)

·3+ years
Programming experience (Java, C/C++, Python, Scala, Rust, etc.)

·Advanced knowledge
of SQL with at least 3 years of functional experience

·Knowledge of
various statistical modeling or machine learning techniques with 3+ years functional

·Strong business
acumen and ability to understand business problems, develop hypotheses, test
and learn

·Ability to form
relationships/partnerships and lead by influence rather than by authority in a
high matrix organization

·Ability to manage
time and priorities while still driving multiple projects at once

communication skills and ability to interact with stakeholders and business
partner across the organization, and at various levels (technical to creative; individual
contributors to executive)

Preferred Qualifications

3+ years functional experience in developing and deploying machine
learning applications or products at a large-scale enterprise

Grasp of theoretical foundations of machine learning algorithms

Prior experience directly or indirectly leading a team of data
scientists or other quantitative professionals

Level of experience (years):

Senior (5+ years of experience)
