We are building a new team in Consumer Engagement tackling conversations and engagement. We want to build a conversational system (dialogue system) for Amazon that will help our customers. We are building the entire dialogue system ground up. To achieve this, we are blending a variety of disciplines (including Natural Language Processing, large scale Machine Learning, semantic graph stores and cloud computing) in an effort to understand our customers and the things they’re excited about. To complement our complex algorithms and extensive data analyses, we will create engaging and inspirational mobile and web features across the entire Amazon experience. We use artificial intelligence, data mining and usability studies to develop new features, and we will test them through prototypes and customer-facing experiments. This is a position on a brand-new team in Seattle, WA and we are starting from scratch. Join us on day 1. We are moving fast to create a big business together, and then expand it across the entire company. As a Software Development Engineer, you will help tackle a variety of technical challenges. Given that this is an early-stage initiative, you will play an active role in translating business and functional requirements into concrete deliverables and build quick prototypes or proofs of concept in partnership with other engineers within the team. You’ll have the opportunity to work with multiple technical teams at Amazon in different locations. Along the way, you’ll learn a ton, have fun and make a positive impact on millions of people.

Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent
Over 5 years experience in Software development
Computer Science fundamentals in object-oriented design, data structures and algorithm design
Strong problem solving and complexity analysis
Proficiency in one statically typed language (Java, C, C++, …)
Proficiency in one scripting language (Python, Perl, …)
Proficiency in software development best practices and design patterns
Experience building high-performance production systems
Preferred Qualifications
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Experience working with large datasets
Experience in natural language processing and/or machine learning

Bachelor’s Degree
