Passionate about books and machine learning? Kindle/Books Demand Science and Analytics team is seeking an experienced Sr. Machine Learning Scientist to create new and better ways to serve readers around the world by unlocking the power of Amazon and Kindle data assets (e.g. reading, buying, browsing, book text/images/reviews).

The Kindle/Books Demand Science And Analytics Team Owns The Development Of Science-based/ML Applications Aimed At Growing Customer Engagement Through

This role will report to the Global Head of Demand Science & Analytics for Kindle Content, and is based in Seattle, WA.
Personalizing customer books shopping and book discovery experience on Amazon, the Kindle App and Kindle Devices
Improving relevance and timing of targeted marketing (across channels such as email, push, on-site, paid media)
Inventing new, and improving existing, book subscription products (including selection and marketing of books for programs like Kindle Unlimited and Prime Reading)
Additionally, you will participate in the broader Amazon ML community and have access to the ‘Best of Amazon’ in computing, science, data, technology, innovation and thought leadership. As a Sr. ML NLP Scientist, you will focus on improving existing experiences (e.g. recommendations, search, surprise and delight customer rewards) as well as inventing new experiences that will delight and engage readers (e.g. Alexa book-related skills). Your specific projects and areas of focus will be determined based on your specific expertise and areas of interest, new research/innovation opportunities and customer/business impact.

Core Responsibilities
Develop, deploy, and socialize ML-models that power specific applications (in partnership with engineers and product managers)
Contribute to and collaborate with other scientists on innovation and research efforts for Kindle/books and Amazon as a whole
Adopt the latest advancements in ML for Kindle/books use cases, developing new/custom algorithms where required

Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications
MS in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Operational Research, Statistics or a related quantitative field
5+ years of hands-on experience in predictive modeling, algorithm development and big data analytics
Skills with Java, C++, or other programming languages, as well as with Python, R, or similar scripting language
Preferred Qualifications
PhD in Mathematics, Statistics, Machine Learning, or a related quantitative field
Significant peer reviewed scientific contributions in a relevant field
Extensive experience applying theoretical models in an applied environment
Expertise on a broad set of ML approaches and techniques, ranging from Artificial Neural Networks to Bayesian Non-Parametric methods
Extensive experience in Structured Prediction and Dimensionality Reduction
Expertise in more than one major programming language (C++, Java, or similar) and at least one scripting language (Perl, Python, or similar)
Proven track record of production achievements in language, search, and personalization
Strong fundamentals in problem solving, algorithm design, and complexity analysis
Strong personal interest in learning, researching, and creating new technologies with high commercial impact
Experience with defining organizational research and development practices in an industry setting
Strong communication and data presentation skills
