Role purpose:

Elsevier Education Technology is developing a next generation product suite which will transform learning in the healthcare space.

We now have a great opportunity for a big data oriented Senior Software Engineer to play a key role in the development of a suite of innovative, tech forward e-learning products used by healthcare professionals.

Reporting to the Lead Software Engineer the Senior Software Engineer will be working with a bright, energetic, collaborative team to develop and maintain a Java-based, recommendation engine that is used as a shared service by Elsevier education products in a fast-paced, microservice environment to personalize user interactions.

We’re looking for a talented engineer to be accountable for ETL processing, data modeling, software architectural design, search ranking algorithm design and implementation, and natural language processing. The Senior Software Engineer will also work closely with big data and analytics partners to incorporate user-behavior information to improve recommendation quality.

We will also look to the successful candidate to mentor junior developers and conduct research on academic and industry trends.




What we’d like you to bring:

5+ years of Software Engineering experience to include:
Demonstrably strong java development skills gained in an Agile, OOP environment ideally using a microservices approach deployed in the Cloud (AWS preferred).
Experience using design patterns and knowledge of RESTful web services
NLP experience and ideally knowledge of search algorithms.
Experienced developing analytical tools is desirable while we would also like to see experience of big data technologies e.g. Hadoop and Cassandra would also be g
Contributions to open source repositories would be beneficial.
