The role of the COO organisation is to drive consistent long term safe and efficient operational performance and value creation. The COO organisation is responsible for the corporate improvement programs and works closely with the line in continuously improving Equinor’s performance.

Equinor has launched a company-wide digital roadmap supported by a digital centre of excellence (CoE) to accelerate value creation from digital technologies. The digital roadmap consists of six programmes which covers the whole of Equinor’s value chain.
Digitalisation can improve safety and security, increase value creation from our operations and reduce our carbon footprint. The Digital CoE develops and manages the overall digital roadmap, ensuring that Equinor has the right portfolio of digital projects to realise the identified potential.

The Digital CoE have expert resources within digital program management, data science, analytics, software engineering and data management. Further, the Digital CoE supports with broad competence building within digital topics across the organisation.

The Senior/Principal Data Scientist is the person with the confidence and ability required to generate original data driven solutions to challenging business problems. They can move from one problem to another and from one business area to another seamlessly. They can deal with complex, messy and fragmented data to generate insights never seen before. They can collaborate with, learn from and educate top class professional colleagues with diverse backgrounds, from geology, to production engineering to supply chain management.

They will be challenged intellectually by working on new propositions, thinking about existing ones differently, working in small diverse groups and switching between hands on data science development and strategic thinking.

Engaging with internal customers to develop innovative data science solutions that will tap new opportunities and enable the business to do things better and more efficiently

Providing hands on modeling and data discovery that will lead to the insights needed to design and deliver transformational programs in ways never done before

Executing the plans developed with the senior team to create data driven processes that support Equinor’s Digital strategy

Deliver world class results in short time
Building innovative ways to automate repetitive processes

Keeping abreast of technological and theoretical developments in the field and the opportunities they may create

Create general solution to common problems such as sensor data processing pipeline

Contribute to the development of Equinor Data Science library with common data science pipelines for general internal use

Qualifications:

The Senior/Principal Data Scientist will have the following experience-

Working for a cutting-edge technology business developing new products

At least 4 years’ experience in developing and delivering analytical solutions

Familiar with at least two of the following industries-

Oil & Gas

Automotive

High Tech Manufacturing

Healthcare

Banking & Capital Markets

Retail & Consumer Goods

Experience in at least two of the following analytics applications

Machine Data utilization

Internet of Things

Process analytics

Supply Chain Analytics

Proficiency in Python and at least two years working experience with the following tools

Microsoft Azure data science and data engineering products

Spark

Agile methodologies

Data science driven software development

A solid understanding of how software components can be integrated to form a solution architecture, pros and cons of different technologies etc.

Strong experience relating to machine learning, optimization, Natural Language Processing, Knowledge Graph building and modeling, computer vision, data exploration etc.

Design and development of modelling data marts (feature engineering)

Agile methodologies

DevOps and continuous delivery

SQL & ETL development

Documentation & communication skills

Proposal development

Master’s Degree/PhD

7+ years of relevant experience preferred

The Data Scientist will be required to work with stakeholders in various expertise areas, businesses and geographies, and cover multiple aspects of Equinor’s Digital strategy
