Overview
We are searching for a researcher in Visual Computing for a novel EU Horizon 2020 project (Scan4Reco) starting in *October 2015*. The ideal candidate should have a Ph.D. or a Master Degree in Computer Science, and previous experience in Visual Computing possibly with a focus on photometric analysis and/or pattern classification. High motivation and interest and previous experience in the Cultural Heritage domain will also be appreciated.
The main tasks that can be related to this position are the implementation and testing of multimodal acquisition setups to capture artifacts surface (including multispectral Reflenctance Transformation Imaging, microprofilometry, 3D scan) and the analysis of resulting data for material characterization. The
salary will depend on the candidate experiences: candidates without Ph.D degree may have the opportunity to join the Ph.D program of University of Verona.
Scan4Reco
Scan4Reco is focused on “Multimodal Scanning of Cultural Heritage Assets for their multilayered digitization and preventive conservation viaspatiotemporal 4D Reconstruction and 3D Printing”. It involves 9 research and industrial partners from 5 different countries. The tasks involving UNIVR unit will be mainly dedicated to the development of acquisition and processing methods, on the modelling of the effects of ageing and time over the different materials and on the realization of test applications with the end user partner Opificio Delle Pietre Dure (the main Italian organization in the field of conservation and
restoration of artworks).
Workplace
The work within the Scan4Reco project will be carried out by the Vision, Image Processing, and Sound (VIPS) Laboratory, and by the Optical Devices and Advanced Techniques (OpDATe) Laboratory, both hosted by the Department of Computer Science.
The Department is strongly involved in advanced research with a 3 ML ? annual budget attracted by competitive R&D projects and technology transfers. With respect to the FP7 period (2007-2013) it has participated in 16 research project funded by European Commission (5.2 ML ?), and in a total of 26 international and national research projects (7.7 ML ?). Finalized research activities have led to 5 spin-offs, 10patents, and 253 grants with companies (4.8 ML ?). The Department has
produced in the period about 2000 scientific publications.
