The Information Retrieval Group at RMIT University has a Postdoctoral position available for researchers interested in interactive information retrieval. The position is funded by the Australian Research Council and will support the research aims of devising new approaches for handling complex information needs and interpreting the intentions of users. Research experience in information retrieval, in addition to an interest in one or more of the following are required: lab-based and crowdsourcing-based user studies, machine learning, or natural language processing. The appointee will work with the supervisors on the development and evaluation of algorithms to support efficient and effective IR systems.

The position will be based in Melbourne, Australia which has regularly been rated among the World’s most livable cities by the Economist.

– Prior research experience in information retrieval as evidenced by publications in the following venues: SIGIR, WSDM, CIKM, WWW, SIGKDD, NIPS, ACL, NAACL, COLING, SPIRE, ECIR, ADCS, TOIS, TKDE, IPM, IRJ.

– Previous experience with software development for large projects and manipulating data collections, and with user-based experimental methodologies.

– Excellent interpersonal and communications skills appropriate for interacting with higher degree by research candidates, staff and industry, together with a strong commitment to teamwork and multidisciplinary collaboration.

Specific requirements:

DURATION: Full-Time, 18 month Fixed-Term Position, with further extensions possible depending on available funding.

ELIGIBILITY: A PhD in Computer Science is required.
