About The International Teaching & Learning Team
Our goal is to make Udemy content accessible to users around the World, with all kinds of linguistic, cultural and socio-economic backgrounds. We leverage the latest tools in speech-to-text transcription and machine translation, making sure we can provide Udemy courses to as many people on this planet as possible. We also work on bringing instructors together with like-minded teachers from other countries, partnering them up for an extended classroom experience. All at the same time, our team is designing and developing applications for both instructors and students, with the aim of providing our international users with the best possible learning experience.
Design, develop, test, and release features for Udemy’s user facing products that are crucial for business expansion and growth.
Identify and evaluate new technologies that improve performance, maintainability and elegance of our software implementation.
Collaborate with product managers, designers and engineers to identify opportunities and implement solutions that provide positive value to our instructors, students and our business.
Plan, organize, and complete work within two-week agile sprints. Communicate effectively on progress and meeting expectations.
Participate in code reviews, design discussions, and develop features and solutions that scale.
Contribute to a team culture that values openness, quality, robustness, and scalability while fostering innovation.
Minimum 2-3 years of experience as a full-stack software engineer.
Well Versed In Web Application Technologies Including
Object Oriented software design patterns and computer science fundamentals (e.g. data structures, algorithms).
Web application development using modern framework.
Web Framework ORMs (e.g. Django, Rails, Zend, etc.)
Python or other scripting languages such as Ruby, PHP (minimum 2 years), etc.
Relational DB (e.g. MySQL) including development of complex SQL queries
Linux and/or Unix
Asynchronous task management queues using Celery, Redis, RabbitMQ
Testing methods, including unit and integration tests
Ability to learn and work with existing code bases, up and down the software stack.
Strong technical communication skills.
Willingness to “go the extra mile” when needed.
Nice To Have
Domain knowledge in NLP and/or Machine Translation
Contributing to open source project(s) and involvement in local technology communities.
Public speaking or technical blog skills.
